Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen emphasized that the current Cambodia-US relationship is at its peak, with both countries enjoying mutual benefits.

Prime Minister Hun Sen made this statement during a meeting with a delegation from the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, led by Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director Michael W. Michalak, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh earlier this week.

“The increase in two-way trade reflects the good relations between the two countries”, said Prime Minister Hun Sen. He pointed out that American consumers are buying more Made-in-Cambodia products, while Cambodians are benefitting from increased job opportunities.

According to the latest data from U.S. Census Bureau, trade volume between Cambodia and the United States reached approximately $12.2 billion, which represents a 40 percent hike compared to 2021.

Dr. Chheang Vannarith, the President of Aasia Vision Institute, an independent think tank based in Phnom Penh, shared his thoughts on the Cambodia-US relationship. According to Vannarith, Cambodia’s foreign policy has consistently been open and inclusive, and the current state of Cambodia-US relations is stable and progressive, characterized by mutual engagement.

The positive state of Cambodia-US relations presents significant opportunities for both countries. The increase in trade volume is evidence of the benefits of a mutually beneficial relationship. Moreover, the stable and progressive nature of the relationship is a solid foundation for deeper cooperation in various fields, including education, culture, security, and investments.
